Revamped Cargo Hold Restaurant to set sail in September

Right now, dining at the uShaka Marine World’s Cargo Hold restaurant is “on hold”.

Africa’s favourite culinary ship will be in dry dock from Wednesday, August 9th to mid-September and will hit the water fully decked out for the restaurants culinary voyage around the world launching with a Mediterranean culinary adventure cruise, which will set sail in just over a month. Seafaring foodies can expect a whole new nautical and sophisticated look with contemporary furnishings offset by trendy vintage touches that reflect the Cargo Holds marine theme. Think newly fitted out bar, bench seat dining areas and Cargo Holds famous shark tank where patrons get to dine with the sharks.

The captain and his team are preparing a big welcome aboard for this new leg of the Cargo Hold journey with a great dining experience featuring exciting new menus, an award winning wine list, service excellence, and an overall amazing dining experience.

However for those of you that want to experience Cargo Holds delicious feasting, the Cargo Hold team will still be operation from their temporary home at Sea Animal Encounter Island providing patrons with more of what they are famous for – a fine dining experience during the day or under the African Moon from August 9th. The special nightly dining experience will include a complimentary after dark entrance into uShaka Marine World’s aquarium from 17h00 – 18h00. Seating will be by 18h30.

There will also be live entertainment from 19h00 nightly featuring Mbijana” meaning “short” or “little person” in Zulu and clearly refers to his height. However, when he performs on his guitar and his beautiful lyrics flow, he reaches the heights of giants. Mbijana is a fresh, young talent whose star is deservingly on the rise.

The evening’s menu will include starters from the salad bar where you can make up your own. Ingredients will include cocktail tomatoes, onion, sliced peppers, cucumbers, pineapple, celery, radish, mixed salad greens, olives, feta, cheddar cheese served with a selection of dressings; that of French, Greek, house, 1000 Island, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Soup of the day will be served with cocktail rolls.

Main course will be from the buffet and freshly prepared by our exceptionally talented chefs and will include: Island style fish of the day (fish fillet lightly seasoned with uShaka’s secret fish spice and finished off in foil on the grill; Grilled Prawns (grilled prawns served with a sauce of your choice either peri-peri, garlic or lemon and herb); Grilled Steaks (steaks done on an open flame grill, complimented by a béarnaise sauce); Mussel Pot (mussels in wine with Chorizo sausage, onion and garlic butter sauce); Casserole of the Day (made with only the freshest ingredients available); Thai Vegetable Curry Pot (spicy coconut flavoured vegetable dish) and all served with savoury rice, roast potatoes and vegetables in season. Desserts will include an array of mouth-watering desserts on display.

The cost of the menu which includes starters, main course and dessert is R230 and we haven’t forgotten the kiddies where we will have a special menu featuring all the favourites that of fish and chips, macaroni and cheese, chicken and chips or steak and chips for only R75 a child.
