12 Dec Plane Crashes at uShaka
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… it’s – oh wait, it’s really an aeroplane!
Early Tuesday morning – before the park was open to all of our visitors – a six-seater Beechcraft aeroplane was lowered into the Shark Exhibit at uShaka Sea World!
Sea World Director Tony McEwan was approached by Ballito chicken farmer Nick Lincoln who came up with a rather brilliant idea: why not use his old, broken down aeroplane as one of the special features at Sea World, for all of Durban to enjoy?
“It only took a few seconds to reply, as I knew immediately it would make a wonderful addition to the aquarium’s shipwreck theme”, said Tony on his email conversation with Nick.
Before being lowered into the exhibit the aeroplane was stripped of its engine and all peripheral pieces before being sprayed with a protective epoxy coating.
The undersea theme of the aquarium is internationally acknowledged as one of the most creative of all aquarium themes throughout the world!
