Zulu Dance Championships 2019 is run by DMTP/ uShaka Marine World with the cash prize sponsored by the Department of Parks & Recreation. In this competition, 3 Zulu dance groups may be selected to perform at uShaka Marine World, with only 1 group receiving the cash prize. By participating in this process or consideration by the Judges, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and voluntarily agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions in their entirety. The effective date of these Terms and Conditions shall be the date you register for your pre-qualifiers entry.
Prior to submitting entry into the auditions, please confirm that you meet the requirements below.
Entry into the auditions will be accepted from 08:30 a.m- 16.30pm on 18 October 2019 and will close on the 3rd November 2019. No registration will be accepted after 16:30 p.m. on 3rd November 2019
You must be able to prove at the time of your registration and audition that:
You are a part of a Zulu Dance Group to participate. The group may consist of as little as 15 persons.
All group members are Kwa-Zulu Natal residents who are available to work at uShaka Marine World upon request
Neither you nor any of your immediate family members (spouse, ex-spouse, parents, siblings, children, step-children) or members of your household (whether or not related to you) are current employees, directors, officers, judges, independent contractors, agents, or representatives of Durban Marine Theme Park (uShaka Marine World); any person or entity involved in the management, booking, or other exploitation of uShaka Marine World’s entertainment, Zulu Dance Championships or any variation thereof;
Audition Entry Requirements
You will submit audition registration as per requirements below:
Your Audition must comply with the requirements of this Section.
No Audition entries will be accepted after 16:30 p.m. on 3 November 2019. Participants can also call 0313288000 to book their spot. All entries should have the following details: Name of the group, number of group members, contact details and preferred pre-qualifier date.
DMTP/ uShaka Marine World reserves the right in its sole discretion to modify or change the eligibility requirements or submission requirements hereunder from time to time and such modifications will be effective immediately without notice.
Only the defending Zulu Dance Champions 2018 (Kangaroo Zulu Dance Group) will automatically move onto the final. The current champions are not required to take part in the pre-qualifiers.
Auditions must conform to the requirements of these Terms and Conditions.
The Terms and Conditions may be amended from time to time.
Multiple audition registrations by any group will not be accepted.
Performance content must NOT contain material which is sexually explicit, obscene, pornographic, violent (for example, relating to murder, weapons, cruelty, abuse, etc.), discriminatory (based on race, sex, religion, national origin, physical disability, sexual orientation or age), illegal (for example, underage drinking, substance abuse, computer hacking, etc.), offensive, threatening, profane or harassing.
Auditions must NOT contain derogatory references to DMTP/ uShaka Marine World or any of its affiliates.
Zulu Dance Championships 2019 will be judged by a panel. Groups selected in any of the pre-qualifiers will automatically move onto the final taking place on 30th November 2019.
External judges, together with judges from uShaka Marine World and Department of Parks and Recreation will judge the competition based on:
The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence shall entered into. The process shall be audited with the assistance of the DMTP Compliance Department.
Transport and Accommodation
All participants are responsible for securing their own transport and accommodation. DMTP or its partners will not be responsible for securing accommodation, transport or food/ refreshments for any groups participating in this competition.
Once the winners have been selected, it will be the responsibility of the winners of the Zulu Dance Champions 2019, the 2nd and 3rd place winner, to organise their own transport, accommodation, food, during the period of performance. uShaka Marine World shall not be responsible for making these arrangements and payments thereof.
In the event, uShaka Marine World chooses your group as the winner of the Zulu Dance Competition you will be required to register your group on the National Treasury Supplier Database (CSD), as well as the eThekwini Municipality supplier database (JDE). Failure to register on these platforms shall mean that DMTP/ uShaka Marine World is unable to utilize your services.
DMTP/uShaka Marine World shall also require you to sign and agree to all of the terms and conditions of additional forms, including, without limitation, a Performance Agreement (Contract) which shall be based on a performance schedule.
uShaka Marine World reserves the right to disqualify and/or exclude, in its sole and absolute discretion, any individual from the audition process for any reason, or including without limitation, violation of any portion of these Terms and Conditions, or tampering with the entry process or the audition process. uShaka Marine World also reserves the right to change these Terms and Conditions at any time, with or without notice. Being chosen to audition in this process does NOT ensure that you will be selected to perform at uShaka Marine World or any of its properties.
Representations and Warranties / Indemnification
You represent and warrant as follows:
The Audition does not and will not violate any applicable laws, and meets the Audition Entry Requirements.
You agree to indemnify DMTP (Shaka Marine World), its subsidiaries, and any other entities involved in Zulu Dance Championships against any claims, damages, injuries, lawsuits or losses that may arise due to your participation in this audition.
Each group will be allocated a maximum time of 5 minutes to perform.
Main Prize (Winner-Zulu Dance Champions 2019)
R100 000 cash
1-year performance contract at uShaka Marine World effective (1 December 2019-29 November 2020)
Guaranteed up to 6 months paid performances at uShaka Marine World (during December 2019 and May 2020)
Guaranteed up to 3 months paid performances at uShaka Marine World (during December 2019 and February 2020).

A: A ticket cannot be changed once it has been bought. To cancel your order,
complete the How to apply for a refund online form. As this may take a few
days, you can purchase your correct ticket in the meantime while your refund
is being processed

-Request will thereafter be attended to by Online Administrator upon receiving
notification of request but note that the requested refund amount generally
takes 7 – 10 working days to reflect in one’s bank account upon the
processing of the refund by the Online administrator.
